I’ve recently become aware of a new film project that could have a profound impact when it comes to raising mainstream awareness when it comes to digital access, censorship, net neutrality and privacy rights. I’m posting this here in hopes that we can attract attention to this project, and get these filmmakers the support they need to get their message out.
Picture a world where everything that you read, see, and hear is controlled by one corporation. Imagine that this corporation had the power to track everything that you do, censor your favorite websites, throttle your blog, and use propaganda to gain influence over your life.
This nightmare scenario is rapidly becoming a reality.
In the year 2011, the mast majority of television, radio, movie studios, and newspapers are owned by just a handful of corporations. These same media conglomerates are currently merging to take over our Internet and achieve total control.
This is the story of David v. Goliath. These media conglomerates have the money, politicians, lobbyists, television stations, and production studios; while we have the people.
Will the integrity of your democratic internet be saved? Or will dissent be choked off, as a few multi-national corporations high-jack our Internet and achieve total control?
Educator and writer Chris Dollar is teaming with filmmakers Ali Akbarzadeh and Jeff Horn of Akorn Entertainment in making #killswitch, the first full length documentary to take an in depth look at the battle for control over the Internet.
